1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are between 13 and the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

2. The Service

Langscroll is a language-learning tool that overlays translations, vocabulary, and related learning aids onto short-form video content from third-party platforms such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by these platforms or their parent companies. Content from third-party platforms is owned by its respective creators and platforms, and your use of that content remains subject to those platforms' own terms.

Langscroll accesses third-party video content solely via the publicly available URLs and embed mechanisms provided by those platforms. We do not host, copy, download, cache, or redistribute third-party video content, and we do not store the underlying media on our servers. All rights in that content remain with its creators and the platforms that distribute it.

We may add, change, suspend, or remove features at any time. We may also impose usage limits, including on the amount of audio transcribed or content processed.

3. Your Account

To use most features, you need to create an account using an email and password, or by signing in with Google or Apple. You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly at admin@getlangscroll.com if you suspect unauthorized access.

You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it up to date. We may suspend or terminate accounts that we reasonably believe were created with false information or used in violation of these Terms.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law;
• reverse engineer, decompile, scrape, or attempt to extract source code or non-public data from the Service, except to the extent expressly permitted by law;
• interfere with or disrupt the Service, our servers, or our networks;
• use the Service to harass, abuse, or harm others, or to upload content that is illegal, infringing, or harmful;
• circumvent rate limits, paywalls, or access controls;
• violate the terms of service of any third-party platform (including TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube) whose content you access through Langscroll, or use the Service to download, save, redistribute, or otherwise misuse content in violation of those platforms' terms or the rights of creators.

You are solely responsible for ensuring that your use of any third-party content through Langscroll complies with the terms and policies of the platform that hosts that content.

5. User Content and Saved Data

The Service lets you save words, definitions, and learning progress. You retain ownership of any content you submit. You grant Langscroll a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, and process that content solely to operate and improve the Service.

You are responsible for the legality of content you submit. Do not upload anything you do not have the right to share.

6. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its software, design, branding, and original content, is owned by Langscroll Inc. and protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for personal, non-commercial language learning. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

7. Billing and Subscriptions

The Service is currently offered free of charge during our pilot. We expect to introduce paid plans in the future. When we do, you will be notified and given an opportunity to review pricing, billing terms, and refund policies before any charge. Continued use of paid features after that point constitutes acceptance of the applicable billing terms.

8. Third-Party Services

The Service relies on the following third-party providers:

• Supabase — database and authentication;
• Google Sign-In and Apple Sign-In — account authentication;
• Deepgram — speech-to-text transcription of third-party video audio;
• OpenAI — translation of transcripts, dictionary and word-context lookups, and text-to-speech pronunciation (for languages other than English);
• Speechmatics — text-to-speech pronunciation for English.

When you use the Service, the data necessary to perform each function is shared with the relevant provider. Their handling of that data is governed by their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to review them.

The Service displays content embedded from third-party video platforms. We do not control that content and are not responsible for it.

You agree to indemnify and hold Langscroll Inc. harmless from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

12. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time directly from the Profile screen on the app's home page. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if we reasonably believe your continued use poses a risk to us, the Service, or other users. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law) will survive.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service or by email before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of the updated Terms constitutes acceptance.

14. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. You agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Toronto, Ontario for the resolution of any dispute arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service, except where prohibited by applicable consumer-protection law.

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Langscroll Inc. collects, uses, and shares personal information when you use the Service. It is incorporated into and forms part of these Terms.

15. Information We Collect

• Account information: your email address, and, if you sign in with Google or Apple, the basic profile information those providers share with us (such as name and a unique identifier).
• Authentication data: hashed passwords and session tokens, handled by our authentication provider, Supabase.
• Learning data: words you save, vocabulary you interact with, familiarity ratings, and other progress information you generate while using the Service.
• Usage data: information about how you use the Service, including device type, operating system, app version, and basic interaction events used to diagnose issues and improve the product.
• Video URLs: when you use transcription features, the publicly available URL of the third-party video you are viewing is forwarded from your device to our backend so that the audio can be transcribed. We do not capture, record, or upload audio from your device, and we do not access the microphone.
• Text sent for translation, definitions, and pronunciation: when you use translation, dictionary, word-context, or text-to-speech features, the relevant text — a single word, a sentence containing that word, or transcript segments produced by Deepgram — is sent through our backend to OpenAI (for translation, dictionary lookups, word-context examples, and non-English text-to-speech) or to Speechmatics (for English text-to-speech). These providers receive only the text needed for the specific request; we do not send them your account identity, email address, or other profile information.

URL forwarding for transcription. When you transcribe a video, the URL of that video is sent from your device to our backend proxy, which immediately forwards it to our speech-to-text provider, Deepgram. Deepgram fetches the audio from that URL, generates a transcript, and returns it to your device, where the transcript is held only in memory for the duration of your session. We do not log, store, persist, or associate video URLs with your account on Langscroll servers — the URL is used only to complete the transcription request and is then discarded. Deepgram's handling of the URL and any audio it retrieves is governed by Deepgram's own privacy policy.

We use personal information to:

• provide, maintain, and improve the Service;
• create and authenticate your account;
• personalize your learning experience and track progress;
• communicate with you about the Service, including security and product updates;
• detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and technical issues;
• comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information.

17. How We Share Information

We share personal information only in these circumstances:

• with service providers that help us operate the Service (Supabase, Google, Apple, Deepgram, OpenAI, and Speechmatics), bound by contractual confidentiality and security obligations;
• to comply with legal process, enforce our Terms, or protect rights, safety, and property;
• in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will notify affected users.

18. Data Storage and Security

We store data with reputable cloud providers and use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit and at rest where supported. Authentication tokens on your device are stored using secure platform storage (Keychain on iOS, Keystore on Android). No system is perfectly secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your information may be stored or processed in Canada, the United States, or other countries where our service providers operate. By using the Service, you consent to such transfer.

19. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Specific retention periods are as follows:

• Account data: deleted immediately upon your request through the Profile screen. We do not maintain backup copies of deleted account data.
• Raw audio sent for transcription: not retained after transcription is complete.
• Transcripts and saved learning data: retained until you delete your account.
• Usage and diagnostic logs: retained for up to 12 months.
• Records required by law: retained for the period required by applicable legal, tax, or security obligations.

20. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at admin@getlangscroll.com. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.

If you are in Canada and have an unresolved concern about our handling of your personal information, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

21. Children

The Service is not intended for children under 13. If we learn we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verified parental consent, we will delete it. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact admin@getlangscroll.com.

22. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the Service or by email before they take effect.
